Shareholder Questions
This year, almost 62% of AGMs delivered by MUFG Corporate Markets offered shareholders the ability to submit questions ahead of the meeting, a valuable tool that continues to strengthen transparency and engagement across listed, unlisted and member‑based issuers and benefits issuers earlier.
The themes raised through pre meeting questions were consistent across the market and with those questions asked during the AGM, with strong interest in:
- Technology and the adoption of AI, particularly its impact on workforce and operations.
- Executive remuneration and performance measures.
- Director capability, composition and appointment criteria.
- ESG practices and climate strategy.
Providing shareholders with the option to submit questions prior to proxy close gives boards an early view of the issues that matter most to investors. This allows Chairs and CEOs to address key topics proactively within their prepared remarks, improving the quality and relevance of AGM discussions.
These figures show a modest uplift across smaller cap issuers (S&P/ASX 201+), while the S&P/ASX 100 remains consistently high year on year, reaffirming pre meeting questions as an established governance practice among larger companies.
