Phone and Participation Statistics

Current legislation prescribing that issuers hold a virtual meeting (fully virtual or hybrid) enable shareholders to participate in the formalities of a meeting by having the option to ask a question orally via a phone line or webphone facility.

In 2024 MUFG Corporate Markets were provided the opportunity to present feedback and insights on the statutory review of the Meetings and Documents Act, regarding the use of the phone line. We were able to provide factual statistics on phone participation rates together with the number of questions being asked via various technology options. Shareholder participation through phone facilities remains extremely low. In 2024 the highest number of participants attending via a phone line was 2 with the highest number of questions asked via the phone also being 2.
